Avanti has worked with our government clients to develop, test, and implement innovative green remediation techniques. In many cases, the green remediation techniques allow for site cleanup without the traditional hauling of contaminated soils to disposal sites.


Phytoremediation at Timber Lake LUST Site

Avanti recommended that phytoremediation be incorporated into the remedial plan to address residual contamination left after previous remediation treatments. This approach was very cost effective and the local residents appreciated receiving the trees for the community.

Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) Technology at Oil Gas Station LUST Site

Avanti researched, recommended and implemented a pilot study to demonstrate the effectiveness of MFC technology on the in-situ bioremediation of petroleum contaminated sites at the site in Batesland, SD. Preliminary results from field testing indicate bacterial activity with voltage readings ranging from 0 to 3.5 mV. The pilot study will be complete in October 2011. The EPA Region 8 LUST Green Remediation Team was awarded the 2011 USTs Outstanding Cleanup/Revitalization award for the MFC Demonstration project, one of EPA’s National Notable Achievement Awards.
